2 Stars Not a “mountain bike” more like “mountain style bike”
This is not a “mountain bike” more like a “mountain style bike”. I got mine about 2.5 months ago, and I’ve ridden it 75 miles so far. The majority of those miles were on pavement or smooth dirt paths. I recently tried to actually ride off road, with mixed results. Ascending (climbing) the bike is OK, shift to the lowest gear, and go. On trails with flat or mild elevation changes it’s OK. Try going down a trail with large rocks and a steep incline and the bike simply cannot handle it. I now realize that I will keep this one for commuting and riding with my Fiancee (who hates dirt, but likes the mountain bike style) and I will be either building or buying a much more serious bike for actual trail riding in the Phoenix Mountain Preserve, and other great AZ trails. It’s an OK deal for someone who likes the MTB styling, but never rides anything beyond the easy paths.
Since I’ve had it my front derailleur has had to be adjusted, and now the rear derailleur does too.
5 Stars Great bike, for a great price!
Bought this bike for myself, after buying the girls version for my daughter. This is an exceptional bike for the price. Great for basic cycling around town/ neighborhood. Haven’t done any great distance on this bike yet as I’ve only had for a couple of months. Rides fine. Shifts great. Breaks work perfect. Purchased mine from TARGET, and they put together, and seem to have done a fine job in doing so. For the price of $149 (keep eye out for sales… TARGET had it for $124 once!), I really don’t think you can go wrong! No complaints!! Worth checking out if you don’t want to spend too much, which I did not. Good luck!!
1 Stars You get what you pay for
Great price, great looking bike. End of positives. I’ve ridden this “bike” 4 times. First three trips were uneventful. On the last trip, the chain came off and wedged itself in the space between the pedal arm and the small sprocket. The sprocket is ruined I am sure. If you are considering one, I paid $[...] for the bike. Divided by the times I got to ride the bike, I paid $[...] per ride. This bike is a piece of crap. Buy at your own risk. I know some will scoff at this review saying that I am probably an amateur bike rider. That is true. Anyone who buys a bike for $[...] is an amateur.
4 Stars Good bike for a townie or beginner
I saw there were no reviews, so I thought I would do so.
I bought my Ranger at Target about six years ago. I still have it, and with general bike upkeep, it still works quite well. After six years, I need to replace the brake pads - which I would say is pretty good.
I have ridden this on all terrains and it certainly does its best on the road. If you need to go off pavement, it still works well. I have taken it through the mud a few times and some soft sand and it preforms okay. If you are looking for a bike you’ll ride mainly on paths (paved or unpaved), with the occasional woodsy ride, I would say it’s great.
It’s also good for an entry-level trail biker. If you anticipate serious climbing or extreme terrain for long distances, I would check out a more expensive option. You get what you pay for, although I think this bike is worth it’s price and more.
I give it four stars as I have had trouble with the brakes when I bought it. They needed some adjustment. Also, the shifter can be a bit off at times. Overall, a happy purchase.
